Memories

This breaks my heart. We loved to visit with him. He was always so happy, positive and always wanted to know if he could do anything to help us. He and Jim loved talking about their old Ford pickups.

Your are in our thoughts and prayers.

When Kade was stying at our house this past summer he had just gotten a nice paycheck from Greer Lodge and was dying to spend and have fun. He wanted to treat his cousins to Krazy Air and I didn’t think that sounded good and he wouldn’t listen to me so Cam said to have him call her. He did the “Call MOM” thing and of course we could all hear the speaker phone conversation. She encouraged him to save his money. He said he already saves 50% for his mission and 10% for tithing. Therefore he gives 60% to the Lord and the Holy Ghost was telling him to not listen to his mother. “You can’t argue with the Holy Ghost”. He was so determined and we couldn’t stop laughing at his trying to convince Cam. What a good strong mother for a good strong boy!  She so calmly teaches and loves and trains. No wonder he is such a great kid!!!  The first thing that comes to his mind is the Holy Ghost!

I remember lots of times going over to their house in Bisbee and Madison, Me, Kade and Nick and maybe the others would go out behind the house and yard. We would find lots of old car parts or mattress springs and stuff and just go and explore. I also remember how sister Nelson used to make peanut butter playdoh and we’d play with it and eat it. I remember lots of times playing with Madison and Lathan and Kade whether it was lightsaber fights or playing pretend or watching movies. I also remember times when we would make a girls only club or the boys would do a boys only club with Nick and Kade and we would all torment each other 😂

I also remember one time when Kade tripped or something and split his head open on the counter, but I don’t think that’s what anyone wants to hear😅

Nicholas Price:

I remember all the times we would wrestle to prove who was the better one.

Steven Price:

I remember one time when we had peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and before we even had the blessing Kade was asking for seconds.

I remember when we would all go and look for grubs to feed their chickens.

Miranda Price:

As small kids, I remember having ‘tea’ parties with him and Madison. I remember being in the kindergarten play with him, “Caps for Sale”.  He was the salesman and I got to throw hats at him!  Also in Kindergarten I remember one time when the teacher put on Sponge Bob Square Pants and Kade and I weren’t allowed to watch it. We were upset and pouting and had to go and color in the corner together. In 1st grade, in the Thanksgiving play Kade was an Indian and Alex Dozier and I were Pilgrims and we were arguing which was better pilgrims or Indians.

As kids, we were always with the Nelson.

In 8th grade we ended up at a basketball tournament together and I remember Kade buying an entire Hershey Chocolate Pie from Pizza Hut to eat in the car on the way home.

More Recently, when we were at the park with the Nelson. Kade wasn’t feeling well, but played basketball anyway, and rode the scooters anyway, and ate a slushy anyway, but finally he was done.  Madison was going to drive him home and right before he got in the car he threw up all over, then hopped in the car, and as they were pulling away he leaned out the window with a huge smile on his face saying “I’m all good!”

Sara Price:

My kids and the Nelson kids were always together when we lived in Bisbee. They played well together…too well.  They had too much fun and more than once, Kade’s head ended up split open.  To avoid the ER and more horrible staples, we would shave the spot and slap on a put on a butterfly band aid.  I’ve never seen a kids skin open up like Kade’s.

I didn’t know Kade personally but he has forever touched my heart.  My son was in a small accident at Thatcher Highschool.  He was very upset and shaken up over it.  Kade stayed with him reassuring him that everything would be alright.  Kade was there until I got there and then he went and told the school what had happened and let the owner of the other truck know what happened.  I don’t think Kade knew how much that meant to my son and how much it meant to me!  He was the calming friend that my son needed!  I don’t think it was a coincidence that Kade just happened to be there.  What a wonderful son you raised!  Thank you!

A few years ago, when the Nelsons lived in Sierra Vista, they lived not far from us and the kids would ride bikes and play all around the area.  Well one day, my husband and I were driving down our street and see a kid on a dirt bike riding a little wobbly! All of the sudden he loses control and crashes into the wash almost upside down! We slow down coming to a stop to run check on him, and he jumped up, crooked helmet, with both arms in the air giving us the thumbs up with the biggest Kade smile on his face and we both started laughing so hard! That kid was always up for a good time and he always made me happy every time I saw him!

Memories of Kade Nelson

By Erin Bueler

  • I remember going to the Cove (an indoor pool in Sierra Vista) with the Nelson family. Kade, Madison and I were walking towards one part of the facility and a woman in a bikini walked past us. Kade loudly exclaimed, “That’s disgusting!” I laughed so hard.
  • During the 2019 Grand Get Together, Grandma and Grandpa Payne took us to Fat Cats. Kade, Cannon and Dallin were playing a game called Down the Clown where you throw red, rubber balls at some clown figurines. They were pelting these balls so hard that I was afraid they would break the game. It was very fun to watch, though.
  • We played a marble game at the Grand Get Together. Grandpa told us “no table talk” but Kade kept making signals and hand signs to communicate.
  • Kade also decorated his pillow case with the Confederate flag. Not because he supported slavery, but because he supported states’ rights. We all got some good laughs out of that.
  • The Sunday of the Grand Get Together, all the cousins came to Solomon Ward. I wasn’t there for this, but during the Young Mens’ lesson, Kade started playing a high-pitched beeping noise. All the cousins were in on it, but it was very confusing to the other young men. One guy, maybe Dryden, asked if anyone else heard it and all the Payne boys pretended not to hear it or know what he was talking about.
  • During the Jazz/Madrigal festival in Flagstaff, I met the Thatcher choir. They were all so excited when I mentioned Kade, and they got even more excited when I told them I was Kade’s cousin. Kade was really loved by everyone.
  • Later, I texted Kade that I met some of his friends. I forgot that his phone was broken so that he couldn’t see texts. He called me asking what I had texted. I told him, then we had a short conversation. He said something that made me laugh pretty hard.
  • Kade’s flip phone screen was broken off the phone. He said his phone was “military grade.”
  • One of the earlier Grand Get Togethers, we had a testimony meeting. When it was Kade’s turn, he told us about a girl that had asked to date him. He said no because it was the right thing to do, “but she was really spicy!”
  • One time when we went to Thatcher, Jason took us all to some dirt dunes to go go-karting and four-wheeling. I drove the go-kart with Madison in shotgun. I took some wrong turns, but Kade came and saved us and helped us push the kart back. He also was laughing about how I hit a rock and definitely got some air. I am not a very good driver.
  • When Jason was starting the go-kart, he accidentally elbowed Kade in the eye. Kade got a black eye which swelled up pretty bad. He made a joke about the Mr. Bean movie where Bean props his eyes open with toothpicks, then proceeded to prop his swollen eyelids up with a broken plastic fork.
  • Knowing full well that Madison was in the middle of watching a BYU football game, Kade called her on the phone. It was funny.
  • Kade made a joke about how deaf Grandpa was with Grandpa in the room. Grandpa didn’t hear.
  • Cannon and I played cornhole together with Kade and another cousin on the opposing team.
  • Whenever Kade came into town, he always wanted to go to Goodwill. I volunteered (or was asked) to drive but I always had something pop up.
  • While bowling, Kade was throwing the bowling ball as fast as he could. I can’t remember what speed he got, since high speed was his goal, but it was insanely high.
  • Kade somehow connected his phone to the bluetooth in the grandparents’ van while Grandma was driving us back from Fat Cats. He played country songs, some rap music, and some song about how much he loved his Grandma. I still don’t know if Grandma knew what was going on. We were stifling laughter in the backseat.
  • In Thatcher, Kade and I made up a game with the go-kart and a bouncy ball. Someone would drive while the other threw the ball. Then, the driver would steer towards the ball and the passenger would try to scoop it up. We alternated between driver and passenger.
  • During Kaitlyn and Nate’s wedding day, Callie and I decided to trick Madison that I was adopted. She wasn’t totally convinced and so we gave up on convincing her. But, she joined us in trying to trick Kade. We brought Kade into Callie’s room, where all three of us told him my “adoption” story. Kade listened and then told us, “I trust you guys.” We later told him at Kaitlyn’s wedding reception. I got a punch in the arm for tricking him, but it was worth it.
  • Kade made some really good burgers at the Grand Get Together.
  • At random moments in the Grand Get Together, Kade would sing “Ameeericaaa… yeaahhh.” A true patriot.
